Attributed to Anne-Geneviève Greuze (French, 1762–1842), ‘Petite Paysanne au Bonnet’ (Young Peasant Girl in a Bonnet), pastel on prepared paper. The attribution and title are recorded in a handwritten inscription preserved on the reverse of the framing.

Anne-Geneviève Greuze was the daughter and pupil of celebrated French painter Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725–1805). She worked as a portrait and genre painter, and her artistic style was closely connected with that of her father. Because of this stylistic relationship, the authorship of works associated with Anne-Geneviève has historically been difficult to distinguish from those of Jean-Baptiste and his circle.
