Alfons Dessenis (Belgian, 1874-1952) was a painter, draftsman and pastellist born in Ghent. He studied at the Academy in Ghent and lived and worked in Sint-Martens-Latem from approximately 1901 to 1922, where he became associated with artists of the Latem group. Dessenis was particularly known for landscapes of the River Lys and surrounding Belgian countryside, as well as portraits, figures and still lifes. His work is represented in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent, including his 1904 Landscape of the River Lys at Sint-Martens-Latem.
