Description
This rare circa 1939 Gousha Global Map captures the world's political boundaries on the brink of World War II. The unique map is constructed of very sturdy cardboard with two rigid cardboard rotating discs with lithographed hemisphere projection maps.
The political boundaries of the this pre-WW 2 map indicate that it was created after the March 12, 1938 Anschluss annexation of Austria but before Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939. Thailand is indicated with Siam in parentheses. Thailand officially changed its name to Siam on June 23, 1939.
The vintage map shows British Somaliland, Italian Somaliland, Palestine, Chosen (Korea under Japan rule), French Indo China, Belgian Congo, French West Africa, North Rhodesia, Southern Rhodesia, Bechuanaland, and Tanganyika. The 1930s map includes sea transportation line routes with distances and city populations.
The vintage 1939 map shows wear consistent with age and use. There is some wear around the edges of the base and around the edges of the hemisphere discs as well as a few dings and discoloration spots in the Indian Ocean.
