Description
Pair of Aesthetic Movement firedogs or tool rests attributed to Christopher Dresser for Benham & Froud. Crafted in England from solid brass, each piece is stamped on the base with a "85" and "57". More recently cleaned, polished and lacquered. As Britain had moved to using coal for heating, smaller firedogs replaced andirons and were used primarily as tool rests and thus became smaller in size.
