Description
A striking fukusa featuring a flying crane and minogame on either side of a huge central mon (family crest). Embroidery and metallic (believed to be thread wrapped in gold foil) couching on shusu silk. Very good condition.
The family crest consists of falcon feathers connotations to both the military and several Japanese shrines. The mandarin crane stands for good fortune and long life. The minogame is a Japanese mythological animal with a life span for 10,000 years that is part turtle, part dragon, symbolizing longevity and good luck.
the turtle or minogame is a constant companion of the crane is story and in art.
It was the carrier of precious things and a messenger of good omen, particularly the words of god.
