A dazzling vintage lapis lazuli gemstone resembling the night's sky full of golden stars, set in a sterling silver starburst. It is a beautiful artist made pendant with silver detailing and a real lapis lazuli gemstone with its natural flecks of gold. Pendant marked 925 for sterling. Condition is new. Chain is not included.

Experts believe lapis lazuli is the "sapphire" gemstone in the breastplate of Aaron in the Bible. During biblical times "sapphire" in the Mediterranean and Middle East was mostly identified as what we call "lapis lazuli" today.

It has been treasured by ancient civilizations of Rome, Mesopotamia, China, Egypt and Greece, for what is perceived to be over 6,500 years. Marco Polo referred to lapis mines in 1271 and some of the most regarded artists of the Renaissance and Baroque imported lapis lazuli for its vibrant color to create ultramarine pigment for works of art.
