This is a vintage Greek repousse copper icon panel featuring Saint George in a rare mid-century battle scene. The copper sheet was hand-hammered from the reverse, creating detailed depth & texture throughout the chariot, armor, horses, warriors & landscape. Pieces from this period were made in small Greek workshops & monastery shops during the 1940s-1960s, using hand-crimped metal borders & fiberboard backing just like this one.

The lower edge includes a stylized Greek inscription, typical of mid-century repousse work. The panel has its original frame, original backing & its original brass hanging loop. The copper has developed an authentic warm patina that adds age, character & depth. This size is highly collectible & displays beautifully.
