Rare modern abstract Stephen Poleskie color serigraph, SEAWANE (Blue with Gray), circa 1968 screen printed at Chiron Press, hand-signed by artist and numbered in pencil, Edition 28/33, image size 25 inches x 18 inches. A must-have for the discriminating art collector.

The colors are minimalist, with shades of cerulean blue, black, and subtle khaki and purple accents.

SEAWANE has a commanding presence and has only now come on the market after being in a private home in Vermont for over 50 years. The abstract and minimalist essence of this meditation on landscape brings a noble clarity to the space around it.

This exquisite screen print was produced at Chiron Press, which Poleskie started in 1963 as the first fine art screen-printing studio in the East Village in New York City. There, Poleskie collaborated to print works by Andy Warhol, Robert Rauchenberg, Claus Oldenberg, Robert Motherwell, Elaine de Kooning, and Helen Frankenthaler, while also producing his own works. Thus, Poleskie was foundational in launching one of the major modern art periods, Pop Art.

Poleskie (American) lived from 1938-2019. His works are included in many premier museums including the following to name a few: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), The National Collection in Washington D.C., The Victoria and Albert Museum, the Tate Gallery in London, The Getty, and other international museums.

This print is in very good condition. There is a small, hardly visible amount of movement in the paper, which is under glass in its original frame. The few subtle paper ripples, caused by moisture, can be easily smoothed by a skilled framer. The frame itself shows some minor condition issues. See photos.
