Description
Part of the Cloister lamp series, this compact architectural form explores how geometric openings create passages for light. Starting with a standard rectangular cast that's divided horizontally and inverted - bottom becomes top - the piece is reconstructed into a layered, tower-like structure through extensive handwork and clay "welding."
Each tier features its own arrangement of openings: triangles, arcs, rectangles, and circles pierce the walls at different scales and positions. The stacked composition creates its own architectonic logic - a miniature building with its own structural rhythm and fenestration pattern. Despite its modest scale, the piece projects a strong presence through the interplay of solid mass and deliberate voids.
The green glaze pools and breaks across the surface, emphasizing edges and recesses while unifying the complex geometry. When lit, the openings become passages of warm light against the cool green exterior, transforming the piece from sculptural object to atmospheric lighting.
Two independent light sources maximize the compact form: a WiFi-controlled, dimmable, color-tunable G9 bulb illuminates the lower chamber, while a standard E26 socket in the upper chamber accommodates a bulb for room-sized illumination.
