Description
Set of three Redware pottery plates each having a different place/village from the Island of Nantucket on them - Nantucket, Shawkemo and 'Sconset. Redware is a style of earthenware pottery using clay with a high iron content that gives the finished piece a reddish-brown color. Originally from Europe, this style was the first pottery made in the Colonies. The notched rim was made with a hand-held toggle. From a Nantucket Estate. Two measure 11.5" in diameter and one measures 9.75" in diameter.
