Description
I think these chairs are stunning and so very interesting. They are "as found". I have no idea what the age is on these but I think they might be earlier than mid-century based on the wood, the bottom of the chair and the gold gesso overlay on the wood. I do believe it is gesso, as you can see places here and there where it has chipped and it is white, with solid wood underneath. The photo I have shown of the arm for example looks like a crack, but it is a crack in the gold outer layer, not the wood. I've tried to show lots of detail. The front piece at the bottom and top of both chairs are in pretty good shape. There is one small piece missing from the front of one of the chairs. As you can see the backs are a different fabric. The front floral fabric is a velvet. Both of these chairs are very comfortable, and the springs feel good when seated. They are sturdy - they do not wobble. They seam structurally sound. They are large and heavy - see dimensions below. Additional dimensions include: the seat in the front between the arms is 18", widening to 26" at the back. Measuring from the outside of arm to arm at the widest point is 30". The back of the chair is 24" wide and 30" tall. These are statement pieces!
Condition:
Alterations: Original Condition Unaltered
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: Some of the gold finish is either missing or white and if you look at the photo you can see the feet might have originally once been gold and are pretty much the wood, I don't see any structural issues with the naked eye and the "sit" well. So they do show wear that is consistent with age. I am assuming the new owner will want to reupholster them as there are worn areas on the fabric. The fabric looks like it is possibly original.
