Description
Vintage framed 1980s fiber art tapestry weaving by Michigan artist Sandra Leigh Robbins. This design features a creamy off-white 3D fiber twisted tree on a woven tapestry blue-accented landscape. Mounted on a wooden board in a quality off-white metal frame by Nielsen. It is signed with the artist's business card affixed to reverse and with a signature seashell sewn into the bottom right corner. We love the asymmetrical Japanese-inspired design.
According to the New York Times (April 26, 1992), Robbins exhibited at "Design: 92" at historic Prallsville Mills in New Jersey. While 57 artists were included in the exhibition, the Times mentioned only a few in their review. "The fiber arts are particularly bold and innovative.... In three 'tapestry' landscapes, by Sandra Leigh Robbins of Michigan, only the backgrounds are woven. Three-dimensional trees, aligned across the foreground, have gnarled trunks wrapped with white yarns and branches filled with "leaves" of twisted cream and white threads.... The result is serene, austere and poetic." The work offered here seems to be very similar to this described piece.
Condition is very good with no noticeable issues. The bottom right of the treetop is a little dusty when compared to the rest of the piece, but it is not very noticeable and could be cleaned if you like.
