Description
This is a vintage composition doll typically dating back to the 1920s or 1930s. Dolls from this era feature molded features made of "composition" (a dense mixture of wood pulp, glue, and sawdust) and often include sleep eyes, painted features, and a wig made of mohair or human hair. Many larger toddler or "mama" dolls from this period featured a cloth torso containing a voice box or a hand-cranked phonograph cylinder mechanism, such as the famous Effanbee Mae Starr talking dolls or Averill "Dolly Rekord" dolls. Others represent character dolls like the early Ideal Shirley Temple composition models.
