Description?This stem cup is a wine vessel from Jingdezhen kiln of Yuan dynasty. It features flared mouth, deep curved bowl and hollow slightly splayed high stem, representing classic Yuan?dynasty stem?cup form. Exterior is decorated with underglaze?red flowering plum?branch motif, with twisting branches and scattered blossoms and buds rendered in free?spirited brushwork. The red pigment displays varying crimson tones, accompanied by typical Yuan?period firing?induced diffusion and dark speckles. Two brown?red concentric lines divide the bowl body. Interior bottom is painted with underglaze?red scrolling floral pattern enclosed within double circles. The stem is hollow, foot unglazed with robust body clay and iron impurities, covered by natural soil patina. The whole piece is covered by soft bluish?white glaze. Underglaze?red demanded extremely strict kiln atmosphere, surviving finished examples are rare. Adorned with noble plum?blossom theme, this stem cup reflects outstanding craftsmanship of Yuan porcelain?making, serving as a representative surviving underglaze?red artifact.
