Description
This two-piece art glass set features a signed mid-century biomorphic bowl by Carl Erickson (1899-1966) paired with a 2001 Jaguar Glass Co. black sommerso vase.
The Erickson bowl measures approximately 83/4 inches long, 51/4 inches wide, and 41/2 inches tall, hand-blown at Erickson Glass Works in Ohio during the studio's celebrated 1950s period. It showcases a thick-walled sommerso construction with a deep black core encased in clear, high-polish glass, forming a fluid, asymmetrical shape characteristic of Erickson's modernist work. The ground, polished pontil and distinctive cursive "Erickson" engraving on the dark portion of the body confirm its authenticity.
The Jaguar vase stands 8 inches tall and 5 inches wide, crafted in dense black sommerso glass with a thick clear casing that enhances its intricately etched floral pattern. Jaguar Glass Co., active since the late 1970s and later based in Eugene, Oregon, is known for its hand-drawn and individually sandblasted botanical designs by artist Ann Schwartz. This vase is hand-signed and dated 2001 on the base.
Together, the pieces offer a compelling contrast between Erickson's mid-century sculptural biomorphic form and Jaguar's contemporary etched artistry, creating a visually striking and collectible studio glass pairing.
