Description
1914 Ford E & J No.3-414 Brass Kerosene Cowl Light. This wonderful Cowl Light was one of the original "parking lights" and the purpose was to show where a car was (tail light also) so a horse and buggy would not run into the car on a street that had no lamps. These lamps were not intended for driving illumination, only as markers for the cars.
This Lamp Light is in very good condition. The front glass is intact with no cracks or chips. The Brass has some tarnish and minor scratches as a result of age and normal use. The original bolt and two nuts that were used to affix the lamp to the car are included. There is a wick in the kerosene lamp holder but it does not roll up.
This would make a nice addition for an Auto Collector! The Maker's Mark of "E & J NO. 3-414" and "PAT. May 26-14" and "PAT. June 23-14" are etched on the bottom.
The Lamp measures 9.5" Tall x 4.5" Wide x 5" Deep. It weighs 2 pounds 4.2 ounces or 36.16 ounces or 1025 grams.
