Mid 20th Century French solid silver, 18k gold and mother-of-pearl box, crafted in Paris and retailed by Dunhill. Rectangular in shape, the lid features an intricate inlaid panel depicting Napoleon I on the back of his beloved horse Marengo. The scene is rendered with varying shades of burgau, mother-of-pearl, and abalone shell, with black lacquer detailing his hat and boots, contrasting against gold epaulettes and harness. The sides are reeded silver, and the base is plain. The inside of the lid bears the inscription: "En souvenir d'une grande bataille / C.M. Noël 1959" (In memory of a great battle / C.M. Noël 1959).
Hallmarked French silver (Minerva's head, 950 standard silver purity), illegible French maker's mark in a horizontal lozenge, French post-1838 control mark.
