Antique 18th Century Imperial Russian solid silver reliquary box, finely hand engraved and richly decorated. On Russian Orthodox reliquary boxes, inscriptions such as IC XC (an abbreviation for “Jesus Christ”) are commonly used as sacred monograms drawn from Greek. Other inscriptions like MP ΘY refer to the Virgin Mary as “Mother of God” Rather than decorative lettering, these inscriptions serve a devotional purpose, invoking divine protection and affirming the religious significance of the object. Hallmarked Russian Silver (875 standard), Moscow, year 1795, Maker A.T (Unknown silversmith to me).
