Description
Antique 19th Century Italian grand tour solid silver and gilt silver mounted micro mosaic box. Made in rectangular form with angled cut corners. The micro mosaic depicts Pliny's Doves, The Doves of Pliny is a well-known mosaic artwork that was discovered in 1737 at Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli, Italy. The original artwork is believed to date back to the 2nd century AD and is thought to be a copy of an earlier Greek mosaic from the Hellenistic period, which is now lost. Hallmarked to the side "L137M" and a Rome assay marking.
CONDITION:
In Good Overall Condition - The base has one crack. Some wear in keeping with age, please refer to photographs.
