Antique late-19th Century Extremely Rare Chinese export solid silver & enamel finger bowl, the sides are applied with shaded enamels, depicting blooming chrysanthemums flowers on polished ground. The bowl is of good traditional size and features stunning workmanship. The base is Hallmarked with Chinese silver 90 (900+ silver standard), Retailers Mark "WH" for Wang Hing , probably the greatest and finest Chinese Export retailer, Wang Hing started trading in Canton soon after 1842 when, with the end of the First Opium War and the treaty of Nanking, China opened its ports to foreign merchants and Hong Kong became a British colony. The base also bears the artisans mark and the enamel of this quality is probably made by the artisan Qiu Ji (active in Hong Kong, 1880-1915). Qiu Ji was an important master silversmith of extraordinary skill running his own workshop who appears on items of Wang Hing silver fairly often.
