Description
Just an incredible antique oil on canvas. It's an unusual, intimate portrait of a glance between lovers. The collar of her ruffled nightgown is open, and she gazes directly at the viewer as if we are hovering over her on the bed. I imagine, her lover the artist, always wanted to remember how beautiful he thought she was in this very moment. And so this painting was born.
It is signed "Boillieav 1896." Upon investigation, I believe that this is indeed a painting by Philip Boileau, of his muse and later wife Emily Gilbert. However, I think someone else, for whatever reason, signed his name and misspelled it. Regardless, it is an exquisite work of art and should be chairished (see what I did there?!) for years to come!
It is in impeccable condition. Please see pics. No holes or scratches. Some crazing due to age. Frame has slight wear at corners. Seems to be a very old, if not original wooden frame.
