Decorative pair of trompe l'oeil book-form storage boxes, circa 2000s, designed in the style of traditional Italian Florentine decorative arts.

The boxes are richly decorated with Renaissance-inspired foliate scrollwork, geometric medallions, and tile-like motifs in warm ochre, parchment, deep red, green, and black. Ribbed antiqued-gold sides cleverly mimic the gilt page edges of antique books, completing the trompe l'oeil effect.

Each faux volume opens on a hinged cover to reveal a generously sized storage compartment lined in deep burgundy felt. When closed and stacked, the pair has the appearance of substantial antique decorative books, making them particularly attractive on a coffee table, console, bookshelf, or library table.

The elaborate ornamentation draws inspiration from Italian Florentine design, particularly the patterned papers and painted decorative objects associated with Florence. The intentionally aged finish gives the pair an appealing Old World character while their practical interiors make them useful for concealing remotes, correspondence, photographs, jewelry, and other small objects.
