Artist: Arthur Clifton Goodwin (American, 1845-1932). Title: Winter Escape. Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. Dimensions: 21" x 26". Housed in gold leaf frame: 27" x 32". American Art Association Anderson Galleries label verso. After this past snowy New England winter—when the drifts seemed nearly up to our elbows—this painting offers an optimistic viewpoint. A man walking his dog through a bright snowscape, when the light on snow makes even the harshest season inviting.A. C. Goodwin was an American painter known for urban and rural scenes, particularly in the Boston area. Working in the early 20th century, he developed a reputation for clear, controlled compositions that treated everyday life—both city and countryside—as direct and worthy subject matter. His work was widely exhibited and collected during his lifetime. An added point of interest is the label on the verso, indicating that the painting was exhibited and sold at the American Art Association – Anderson Galleries. Formed in 1929 through the merger of the American Art Association and Anderson Galleries, it was one of New York’s premier auction houses and a dominant force in the early 20th-century art market, handling important collections of paintings, antiques, and decorative arts before its acquisition by Parke-Bernet Galleries in 1938.

Good. Relined.
