About: Rene Lalique (1860–1945) was the leading Art Nouveau jeweler in Paris before he turned to glass, and his frosted relief set against clear ground became one of the defining looks of Art Deco. Pieces from his lifetime are signed “R. Lalique”; production after his death in 1945, under his son Marc, is marked “Lalique France.” “Barsac” is named for the Bordeaux sweet-wine appellation, one of several Lalique services given wine names. It stayed in production in crystal into the 2000s, and this is an example of that later production.
