Description
A very fine and large 19th or early 20th century French tapestry depicting men and a woman in conversation in a Louis XIV parlor or sitting room.
Handmade from wool and silk floss. Needlepoint and petit point techniques. Silk back lining.
A group of three men are sharing a letter and a man and woman are in conversation in the background. The tapestry is beautifully composed and executed in every way and depicts 18th the century styles in fashon and decor.
Height : 58"
Width : 40"
PROVENANCE : Private collection.
CONDITION : The hanging loops at the top have some fraying. There are a few areas of separation between colors, which don't show when hanging and could be stiched together for preservation. The original lining has some staining and is separated along the bottom edge. The tapestry displays nicely as it is.
