This piece is a Liao Dynasty-style jade "ornament/jade companion" (it can also be regarded as a flower-shaped hollow ornament, a crown ornament or a clothing insert). It is white in texture, warm and slightly greasy, with small spots visible in some places. The overall design is in the shape of a cloud head/lotus petal, with hollow triangles on three sides and small perforation marks in the middle and around the edges, indicating that it could have been sewn or hung. The front relief decoration has petals and leaf veins with rounded layers. The back is plain, with grinding and drilling marks visible, and the treatment is simple. The jade wares of the Liao Dynasty were influenced by the aesthetics of the Tang, Five Dynasties and grasslands. Common flowers, clouds, birds and animals were combined with practical ornaments, and the shapes were full, openwork carved refreshing but not overly complicated. This piece is shaped like flowers and leaves, which symbolizes purity, reproduction and auspiciousness; the hollowing out and perforations are both decorative and practical, and are typical of the "jade suit" small ornaments of the Liao gold period.
