Antique Papier Mache Wine Coasters / Plates, a Pair Hand Painted Gilt

Description

An antique pair of black and hand painted gilt papier mache lacquered wine coasters or game plates. The gilt paintings are scholar figures with a landscape in the background and decorations around the edge. These lovely pieces were also used as trays for visitor's calling cards. They are hand made 19th-Century Chinese Export trays originally marketed to England.. They have a lovely scalloped edge.
