Evoking the quiet beauty of the French countryside, this antique oil painting presents a pastoral landscape with a village nestled in the distance. Crafted in France circa 1890, the composition is painted on board and displayed in its original carved giltwood frame. Lush vegetation, open fields, and a softly rendered blue sky create a tranquil scene, while the fresh green and blue palette reflects the influence of Post-Impressionism. The work is signed "H. D. Lemaitre" on the reverse.

Henri Dreyfus-Lemaitre (1859-1946) was a French painter born in Amiens. Working from his studio in Frepillon near Auvers-sur-Oise, he became associated with the artistic circles of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His landscapes reveal the influence of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Divisionism, particularly in his use of small, juxtaposed touches of complementary color. Dreyfus-Lemaitre exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Independants and frequently chose naturalistic subjects painted directly from the landscape.

The antique artwork is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with richly preserved colors and a warm patina to the original giltwood frame.
