Description
Offered is a red steel wire fruit / centerpiece bowl designed in the early 1990s by Ehlen Johansson for Ikea.
The design is so clean-lined and striking some people have adapted this bowl and use it as a dome for a pendant lamp, and others have found a way to use it as an interesting table lamp.
Johansson is known for many of Ikea's most iconic pieces, such as the Hapen Valet, this Tradig bowl is part of the museum's permanent collection and was featured in many 1990's design exhibits.
Measures approximately 12" diameter and 8.25" tall
About the designer:
Ehlen Johansson chose to study at HDK, the School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg, which allowed her to explore crafts and industrial design. She started her journey at IKEA as an intern in 1984 and has, for almost 40 years, created everything from vases and glassware to wardrobes and bedroom furniture.
As one of Sweden's most prominent designers, Ehlen has won multiple design awards. She finds inspiration in nature and bases her work on the IKEA concept of Democratic Design - smart and functional also in production. "If the ideas don't work in industrial practice, they're not good enough!" she says.
