This elegant French ceramic planter was crafted in Anduze, southern France. Made in the traditional Provencal manner, the vessel features the classic campana form with a generous rolled rim, gently tapering body, and raised circular foot. The exterior is richly glazed in a deep, lustrous emerald green with natural tonal variations and subtle pooling, allowing glimpses of the warm terracotta beneath where time and use have softly worn the surface.
The body is decorated with applied garland swags adorned with stylized floral motifs, anchored by medallions in relief, one bearing a heraldic crest. The molded detailing is crisp yet softened by age, and the glaze exhibits light craquelure and scattered edge wear consistent with outdoor use. The interior remains unglazed terracotta, showing wheel marks and the hand-thrown construction typical of authentic Anduze pottery.
The planter is stamped inside "Poterie du Calvaire" and "La Madeleine Anduze," confirming its origin in one of the region's established workshops. A drainage hole at the base allows for practical garden use.
This Anduze jardiniere is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with minor glaze losses that enhance its character and Provencal authenticity. A timeless decorative accent, it would bring classic French garden elegance to a terrace, entry, or interior setting.
