Description
This is a vintage 1960s decorative triangular-shaped vitreous enamel on copper trinket dish that measures 6" x 6" x 3/4" (where the three tips curl upwards). These artisanal objects, often used as cocktail party ashtrays or trinket dishes were popularized by the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and the craft studios in California of the era.
The artisan used hints of copper, rust red, black, gold, and a hint of white to create an abstract medallion or starburst and a dull gold rim below the glaze. The bottom is black glazed enamel. It bears no visible signature or date.
Condition:
Alterations: Original Condition Unaltered
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: The visible surface of the dish is intact and there is no damage to the enamelized metal or along the rim. The black enamel bottom shows evident wear (see photo), some peeling of the glaze (yet is still all black) commensurate with the object's age and usage.
