Description
Wire welded and chromed steel, chair Harry Bertoia (Italy, America, 1915-1978) for Knoll, retaining the Knoll seat cushion. His artistic output ranges from jewelry to works in public space and from to furniture to sounding pieces. Most of Bertoia's works have two aspects in common: they are executed in metal and they are highly sculptural. Working closely together with Charles and Ray Eames on the development of their early chair models. Though Bertoia didn't receive any credit for his groundbreaking work, he did gain useful experience in the field of furniture design and production. However, Bertoia did receive full credit for his work when former Cranbrook classmate Florence Knoll and her husband Hans asked him in 1952 to design a line of furniture.
