Before the Glendale Freeway poked its way through and cut Fargo Street in half.

John Coolidge (1882-1947) studied art at Stanford University in 1905 and then studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and with William Merritt Chase, Cecilia Beaux, Thomas Anshutz, and J. Francis Smith.

In 1909, Coolidge moved to Los Angeles and worked as a commercial artist and instructor at the Otis Art Institute. He was a member of the California Art Club and the Laguna Beach Art Association.
