This set of twelve (12) vintage first edition period lithographs (offset) depict abstracted cubist images by Fernand Leger, one of the finest French modernists of the 20th century. Comes from a rare First Limited Edition folio of the artist, created while he was still living, published by Editions Du Chene in Paris, France in 1948. Folio number 266. Most are signed in the plate on the lower right corner.. Printed on one side only. Hand tipped-in on substantial stock. Information regarding the original artwork, in French, will be found by lifting any piece in the lower right corner. Excellent condition - lower top corner is attached to the board and can not be lifted up, minor edge wear on the board, never framed. If you can find them, these prints are selling elsewhere between $350 and $1425 (many are priced over $1000 each Bold and colorful, a dynamic grouping. Joseph Fernand Henri Leger (1881 - 1955) was a French painter, sculptor, and filmmaker. In his early works he created a personal form of cubism which he gradually modified into a more figurative, populist style. His boldly simplified treatment of modern subject matter has caused him to be regarded as a forerunner of pop art.
