Description
A complete early 19th-century French porcelain sauce tureen set - tureen with fitted lid and coordinating underplate - acquired from a dealer at the Marche aux Puces in Paris. One of several pieces from the same vendor, all listed separately in our shop.
The form is confidently Rococo: the tureen body is deeply lobed with molded fluting, the twin handles elaborately scrolled, and the lid crowned with a sculptural flower-cluster finial rather than a simple knob - a mark of quality in a piece of this period. The coordinating underplate echoes the lobate shaping with scrollwork cartouches at each end.
The decoration is printed in rose - a warm, deep pink - with large floral groupings of tulips, roses, and scattered sprigs distributed across lid, body, and plate. A fine rose pinstripe runs along the rim of the tureen, tying lid to body.
The tureen carries a professional period repair to one handle - stable and entirely consistent with age. The underplate is in excellent condition throughout.
