Description
'A Rocky River' by listed British artist, Sebastopol Samuel Holland (flourished 1877 - 1911). It depicts a springtime scene with a winding river as it cuts through a rough and rocky terrain. A wooded landscape under a stormy sky lies in the background. This large, lovely quality work has been painted with rapid brush strokes and full of movement and is most attractive. It is a very fine original oil on canvas, signed lower right and displayed in a wide giltwood frame. Sight: 36"W x 24"H
Sebastopol Samuel Holland was a Nottingham, England based landscape and coastal painter. He was made a member of the Nottingham Society of Artists in 1881. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Nottingham Museum and Art Gallery and elsewhere. Auction records for Holland exceed $14,495.
