Volume featuring handwritten letters to and from Lord Burghersh, British Minister to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, correspondents being various ambassadors, officers and diplomats, several letters covering Napoleon's Hundred Days. Highlights including: Richard Walker, British Vice-Consul in Naples; Edward Harley, 5th Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer; William à Court, 1st Baron Heytesbury; Cardinal Bartolomeo Pacca (mentioning Napoleon's escape from Elba); Sir John Dalrymple; Richard Le Poer Trench, 2nd Earl of Clancarty (informing Burghers that "the Duke of Wellingtom proceeded yesterday morning early from Vienna to take upon himself the Command of the forces in the Low Countries, also including a copy of a letter from Wellington to Lord William Bentick); Admiral Penrose (one letter announcing the hostile entry of the Neapolitan troops under Murat in Rome); Major General Anton Gundacker von Starhemberg; Edward Pellew, 1st Viscount Exmouth; Josef von Werklein (one letter mentioning Murat's retreat towards Ancona and the Austrian troops entering Bologna); General Vinzenz Ferrerius von Bianchi (one letter reporting on the Battle of Tolentino and Murat's escape to France disguised as a sailor); most letters in English, a few in French and Italian, handwrittem list of contents, dockets on verso of letters, folds, slightly browned, mid nineteenth century half morocco, gilt, slightly rubbed, gilt spine, folio, 29 March 1815 - 28 September 1816.
