Rodgers and Hammerstein.- Signed theatre programme

Original programme for the West End production of Flower Drum Song (March 1960), signed by Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, and Dorothy Hammerstein, some chipping to wrappers, handling wear, otherwise in very good condition.

***The programme relates to the London Palace Theatre opening of Flower Drum Song in March 1960, which was attended by both Rodgers and Hammerstein along with their wives. The event received press coverage and photographs appeared in contemporary newspapers showing them present at the theatre around the time of the opening. The production itself marked a notable moment in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s London history, as the Palace Theatre engagement represented a departure from the venues normally associated with their West End premieres. Importantly, the signatures were obtained only a few months before Oscar Hammerstein II’s death in August 1960. At this time he was already suffering from the illness that would ultimately end his life, which places the autograph in the final period of his career and life.
