Provenance:
Extremely fine photograph by W.& D. Downey showing the exile empress in profile dressed in a high necked black dress, kneeling at an ornate prie-dieu and mourning the loss of her husband and son, clearly signed "Eugenie" on original photographer's mount, original brown leather frame by Walter Jones of Sloane Street; enclosed, unsigned, note says it was given to the bearer by "the Empress when they said farewell to her at Farnborough Hill 24th October 1910.
