Battenberg (Prince Louis of) Two autograph letters

One letter, to Mrs David Moore, in the third person, confirms Louis's acceptance to an invitation, one page, integral blank, aboard 'Inconstant', 17 Junen 1881, with original mailing envelope; the second letter, signed "Louis Battenberg" and addressed to Miss Ethel Moore (David's daughter) in Melbourne, says "I was most greatly surprised by your letter a day or two ago. It must have come a long way round. I think the photograph wonderfully good and so beautifully coloured and all. I am delighted to have it, all the more as I thought you might perhaps forget after all that long time. We are on the point of leaving Japan, where we have all spent our last shilling on 'curious'/ From Yokohama I went up to the capital for a few days with the two Princes to stay with the Mikado, which was rather amusing. There was also a ball, where I had to take a Japanese Princess in to supper. She was so frightened that I could not get her to eat anything. Of course dancing with her was out of the question. She had never been to a ball in her life before. At Fiji [...] they had two balls for us. I only tried a valse [sic] once and gave it up in despair.
