1790 English Wedgwood Creamware Etruscan Pattern Plate

Description

Antique 18th c. Wedgwood pearlware oval dish. Enameled in red and brown neoclassical decoration with stylized gadroon and dot borders and scalloped rims. Impressed marks to the underside. Each measures 8 5/8" x 6 7/8".

For similar plates see Christie's Dumfries House sale Volume II lot 356. Dumfries is a Palladian country house in Scotland with Chippendale furnishings. It is now a museum that enjoys the patronage of the Prince of Wales. The Christie's sale was cancelled and the plates returned to the house where they are now on display in the pink dining room. Good condition.
