FRAMED WATERCOLOR - eau forte

Depicting Napoleon's Battle of Austerlitz, this "eau forte" or engraved watercolor was painted by French artist Francois Gerard and engraved by Claude-Marie-Francois Dien. Also known as the Battle of the Three Emperors, it is remembered as one of Napoleon's great wins, but it may also be noted as the beginning of the Emperor's loss of touch with reality, even though his small army managed to defeat the Holy Roman, Russian and Austrian armies.
