Other notes: Floral motifs are a common feature of Tibetan weaving; however, few surviving examples display the same level of detail or fidelity to their early prototypes as the present example. The delicate and highly articulated vines and blossoms reflect the influence of Yuan-period silk brocades, in which this ornamental style reached its fullest expression. The exceptionally fine weave suggests production in a specialized workshop, likely supported through elite patronage. Comparable examples exhibit remarkable consistency in both palette and weaving technique, indicating a probable common workshop origin. The present example was likely intended as a ceremonial mat reserved for distinguished guests. The particularly refined color palette, together with the extension of the field pattern to the borders, enhances this rug's overall elegance and sophistication.
