Highly detailed 19th-century Kashmiri patchwork shawl (Raffal/Jamawar), featuring red center field and signature. Lightweight wool pashmina-type blend. Wide border showcases interlocking "boteh" (traditional paisley) motifs and floral vines rendered in jewel-toned shades of emerald green, orange, turquoise, gold and indigo. Traditional patchwork construction of separately-woven segments then joined by master embroiderer (rafugar). Lower-left corner of redfield is embroidered with the artisan's signature in golden-colored thread. Appears to be written in Persian or Urdu script. Originated in area of Kashmir, India, circa 1850-1880. Very good condition. Light fringe fraying. Measures approx. 62"Lx62"W.
