Description
This is part of Chairish's Costume Jewelry assortment.
1960s designer Mid-Century Modern Gem-Craft hammered gold-plated link bracelet with two pairs of matching clip-back earrings. This is a truly unique bracelet suite, in that it provides two different pairs of earrings -- one for day wear and one for evening wear; the daytime option is a single element on the ear, while the evening option has a smaller element on the ear with a suspended dangle. The basic design motif is a rounded-edge square that is slightly domed, the surface of which mimics hammered metal; each square is encased in a matte gold finish and centered with a bezel-set sugar-loaf cabochon of mirrored glass in jewel-tones of amethyst & ruby. The bracelet presents six segments, linked by built-in hinges and secured by a tongue-and-box clasp. The daytime earrings have the amethyst glass, and the evening earrings have a smaller round cabochon of the ruby glass on the ear and the purple glass in the dangling portion. They are signed "Craft", the mark of the Gem-Craft Co. of Providence, R.I.; this company was founded right after WWII by Gene Verri and his brother Alfeo. Gene was head designer for Coro for thirty years, and was responsible for some of their most iconic designs. This is a Stunning and elegant set, with the brushed gold finish setting off the glowing jewel-tone stones; the hammered effect of the surface creates a play of shadow & light, and the tall cabochons capture and reflect light like stained glass. Condition is mint -- all pieces appear to have been seldom if ever worn; there is not a scratch or mark or flaw anywhere. This is a superb and rare offering from a master of jewelry design. Dimensions: bracelet, 7"L x 1.2"W; day earrings, 1.2"L x 1.2"W; evening earrings, 2"L x 1.2"W.
