Japanese Bantai means "bamboo basket weaving (base material)." As the name suggests, it is made by applying lacquer to woven bamboo vessels, polishing them repeatedly, and then applying decorative processing.
It is said to have been created around 1887 by three people: tea master Toyofuku Katsuji, bamboo craftsman Kondo Koshichi, and lacquerer Kawasaki Minejiro. Not only is it beautiful in appearance, it is also light and durable, and the more you use it, the more it becomes appealing.
