During the Meiji Period CE 1868 - 1912, the modernization of Japan encouraged the nation to wear Western clothing and discouraged the carrying of swords causing sword makers and metalsmiths to make changes in making their livelihood. They turned to making beautiful bronzes, cloisonne and other works of art.

This bronze tripod with metal inlaids is a fine example of the works of art produced in this period. This technique is called "zogan" and it refers to inlaying bronzes, specifically referring to inlaying metals like gold, silver, and copper into a bronze base. This koro has plenty of inlaids, placed in many areas of gold wires bronze surface. On the cover is a delicate floral scroll in gold, gold wires outlined the edges of the ornamental handles. Well designs vignettes decorate the rounded surfaces, a goose flying across the moon and the other side is a long tail cockerel among flowers. The exaggerated long legs give the tripod shape an elevated elegance. It is not signed.
