The ox blood or sang de boeuf glaze, langyao hong in Chinese is a popular glaze color in China, as red is a good luck color. The bulb bowl is also a popular ceramic form, it is a vessel for forcing narcissus bulbs for New Year, The object is a low, wide porcelain bowl covered in a rich oxblood red glaze , shading to a lighter tone near the rim and poolin g to a deep crimson at the base. The interior and base are glazed in white with subtle crackles and spider webs like lines under the glossy surface. Bowls like this one are generally made in Jingdezhen in Jiangxi Province, the porcelain capital of China. This rich red glaze was a great favorite of Emperor Kangxi of the QIng Dynasty and still popular today. This bowl has been used and has some age. The age of manufacture is Republic of China, early 20th century.
