Description
Large 19th Century French Provincial Antique Gilt Wall Overmantel Leaner Mirror with Original Glass.
This incredible 19th century gilt wood mirror was crafted in France, circa 1880. An antique gem, this mirror marries an upright silhouette with an abundance of flowery moldings and rosettes. The beautifully distressed finish shifts between ivory white and oxidized oranges and browns, producing a rich contrast that can only be found in a century-old patina. Gilded remnants heighten the delicate frame, completing this rare piece with a subtle profile.
All in original condition with original (very heavy) mercury glass plate with distressed spots and foxing typical for age. The mirror glass is approximately 1/2 inch thick. It also has its original paneled wood backboards.
Outside frame dimensions - 43 inches x 57 inches x 2.5 inches deep
Condition:
Alterations: Original Condition Unaltered
Imperfections: Needs Restoration
Condition Notes: Good. Original gilding is nearly gone leaving behind a taupe/cream patina. Has a fair amount of chipping and losses to decorative elements around the frame but it remains structurally sound. The mirror glass is original with foxing and aging throughout.
