Selected by E. V. Lucas. London: Wells Gardner, Darton & Co., Ltd. and Frederick A. Stokes Co., c. 1905. Probable first US edition. 390pp. Beige cloth boards with gilt decorations. Condition fair to good, covers are rubbed and worn, fabric buckled slightly, spine sunned, hinges cracked, children's drawings on end-papers and several interior pages, a few loose pages, finger marks in the margins, and soil to text block page edges. Color frontis and title page with 38 full page black & white illustrations by F. D. Bedford. A scarce book of fables well loved by children but still has life in it.
